Allegra Young and All Things Awesome

Allegra Young is as talented and charming as she is beautiful; handy for you folks, since she’s semi-nude in the ad for Bare It For Books, the sexy but “classy” (LOVE that word) upcoming 2014 calendar featuring 12 well-known Canadian authors who are almost naked but not quite. We are Canadian after all. Young and her co-conspirator Amanda Leduc (author of just released THE MIRACLES OF ORDINARY MEN) created Bare It For Books in an attempt to raise funds for PEN Canada, with a goal of $20,000. You can join in the fun and get your groovy calendar if you simply CLICK HERE. Did I mention the naked bits?

I had the pleasure of meeting Young and Leduc last week and both are unassuming and quietly elegant, which is not exactly what you expect of the people who are behind a naked calendar. This lack of showiness, however, is exactly why we expect the calendar to be a success. Now can you imagine a better or more unique calendar for the book lover in your life? http://bareitforbooks.ca/home/

Reading THE MIRACLES OF ORDINARY MEN myself – my Mother’s Day treat to myself – and loving it so far. More on this later, as my Mother’s Day mimosa binge shortened my reading time considerably in favour of the more traditional Mother’s Day afternoon nap.

Reflection of the Gods wins an IPPY!

Amazing news!!!

Reflection of the Gods has won has won a bronze medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPYs) in the Canada-East – Best Regional Fiction category.

This competition is open to all English-language indie published books worldwide. This year there were over 5,000 entries.

Never heard of the Independent Publisher Book Awards? Well be glad you have now. Check their review section! Reviews are well written and researched – a great place to send your book for review.

The link is to the general site rather than the awards because

  1. you have to scroll down for AGES before you find the award you are looking for
  2. the results are not yet finalized for some categories
  3. and finally because the general website is full of great advice and ideas on everything from the creation of book apps to marketing advice.

So here it is: http://www.independentpublisher.com/index.php
